“Building stronger connections takes time, patience, and understanding — and you don't have to do it alone.”
— Dr. Emily Torres
For over 15 years, I've had the privilege of walking alongside families through their most challenging and transformative moments. I understand that every family's journey is unique — there's no one-size-fits-all solution to the complexities of modern family life.
In my Austin practice, I create a warm, non-judgmental space where parents and children can build stronger connections, improve communication, and develop the skills to thrive together. Therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who truly gets it — not a clinical lecture. Here's what you can expect when we work together.
Modalities
I don't come in with a one-size-fits-all playbook. You know your family best. My role is to listen deeply, understand your unique dynamics, and help you discover solutions that actually work for your situation.
Parenting is hard. Family life is complicated. You'll never hear judgment from me — only compassion, understanding, and support as we work through challenges together.
I believe in giving you real tools you can use immediately. We'll practice communication techniques, problem-solving strategies, and relationship skills that make a difference in your daily life.
Whether I'm working with parents alone, children individually, or the whole family together, I make sure everyone feels heard and valued in the process.
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to the ones I hear most.
Every family is different. Some families see significant improvement in 8-12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust as needed. My goal is to give you tools you can use independently — not keep you in therapy forever.
Both! Sometimes I work with parents alone to develop strategies and process their experiences. Other times I meet with children or teens individually, or bring the whole family together. We'll figure out the right approach for your situation.
That's okay and quite common. Even if one parent comes alone, we can still make meaningful progress. Often, as one person starts changing their approach, the whole family dynamic shifts. And sometimes a reluctant partner becomes interested once they see positive changes happening.
Yes, with important exceptions. I maintain confidentiality except when there's risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of child abuse. When working with families, I'm transparent about what information I'll share between family members and always discuss this upfront.
I accept select insurance plans and am in-network with several major providers. I'm also happy to provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Contact me to verify your specific coverage, or we can discuss private pay options.
Life with kids is unpredictable — I get it. I ask for 24 hours notice when possible, but I understand that sick kids and emergencies happen. We'll find a policy that works for both of us.
